Boatyard Restaurant

Housed in 10,000 square feet with a heavy timber frame, BOATYARD’s waterfront location served as inspiration for the upscale-casual nautical design concept. Authentic, re-purposed, yet sophisticated finishes incorporating thematic elements were used to avoid a ‘theme venue’ feel. A 30’ ceiling above the bar inspired a monolithic 19’ tall salvaged crew oar sculpture with original boat numbers and colors. Oars spiral around a steel frame with demising walls of ship rope and steel turnbuckles mortised into the floor. Boatyard’s challenge became its largest asset – the soaring ceilings inspired over-scaled design features that created a human and nautical scale to a potentially vacuous space.
